Sometimes it is not just Productivity by Omolola

Do you ever feel like you’re constantly performing for life? You smile, laugh, show up for your loved ones, reply to messages with the perfect meme or sticker, excel at work, juggle your responsibilities like a pro, and keep everyone around you calm and okay.

But deep down? You’re drowning. Your heart races for no reason. Sleep has become a distant memory. From the outside, it looks like you’re thriving, living life to the fullest. But on the inside, it feels like your thoughts are sprinting on a treadmill with no off switch.

That’s the thing about high-functioning anxiety: it hides in plain sight. It doesn’t always look like panic attacks or shutting down. Sometimes, it’s hyper-productivity. Sometimes, it’s overthinking every single text you send. Sometimes, it’s avoiding rest because the silence feels too loud. And sometimes, it’s being so exhausted, yet not knowing how to stop.

People say, “You’re doing so well!” But they don’t see the emotional gymnastics it takes to hold it all together.
So let this be a gentle reminder:
● Just because you can carry it all doesn’t mean you have to.

● Just because you’re not falling apart doesn’t mean you’re not struggling.

You don’t have to wait until you break down to ask for help. Rest is not something you earn. Care is not a reward for burning out. You deserve peace even when you’re performing well.

This month, give yourself permission to slow down. Unplug. Breathe. Feel. Talk to someone; a friend, a therapist, or even yourself, whether through journaling or speaking your thoughts out loud.
You are more than your productivity. And it’s not just vibes. It’s okay to say, “Actually, I’m not fine today.”
